Eating disorders
In teenagers, eating disorders affect seven girls in every 1000, but only one boy in every 1000.
Sexual violence
In a recent survey, only 1 in 12 interviewees felt that young people would be likely to report, or talk about, experiences of sexual violence or exploitation and even where they felt a young person would talk, they thought this would be to a peer rather than a professional.
Diagnosable mental health disorder
1 in 10 children and young people aged 5 - 16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder - that is around three children in every class.
Looked after young people
Around 60% of looked after young people have some level of mental health problem.
Young women in gangs are:
- 3 times more vulnerable than most children in the youth justice system.
- 3-4 times more likely to run away from home.
- 3 times more likely to experience violence, neglect at home and sexual abuse.
